At the 2024 Dulverton Exmoor Literary Festival, racehorse breeder and owner Janet Vokes shared her remarkable story about how she bred her own foal who was raised on her Welsh allotment and went on to win the Welsh Grand National! As a barmaid in a poor Welsh mining village, Janet convinced some of her fellow residents to pool their resources to compete in the ‘sport of kings’ with a racehorse they would breed and raise. This documentary also includes local trainer Johnson White who was persuaded by Jane to train the horse at Philip Hobbs’ Stables in Bilbrook. An incredible and inspirational real-life story that will thrill equine enthusiasts and novices alike.
